Editorial: Hope on the horizon

Romil_Patel2020 has been an unpredictable and turbulent year with the black swan event that is the Covid-19 pandemic. The economic shockwaves have reverberated globally, inevitably sparking conversations around our relationship with nature and biodiversity, the robustness of the global economy and the pricing of risks. Sustainability is now a permanent fixture. While the “new normal” is yet to be determined as we head into the new year, Asia has tentatively begun recovering, but at a variety of speeds, as the IMF notes. What bodes well for the region, as investors recognise, is that Asia is taking front and centre stage amid a return to growth. Inevitably, this will depend on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the state of the US dollar, the impact of a Biden presidency (see pages 12-14) and the continued control of Covid-19 and the vaccine rollout, which importantly signifies hope. Heading into 2021, hope is on the horizon, and while the festivities this year will be a little different than usual, we wish you good health and happiness for the new year ahead.
