Tokyo-based Nikko Asset Management has hired Yuichi Alex Takayama as global head of sales for its international business.
Takayama joins from Tokio Marine and Asset Management, where he was chief executive of the firm's European unit. In his 20 years in asset management, Takayama has worked in Tokyo, New York and London for companies including Chuo Mitsui Trust & Banking and Mizuho Trust & Banking.
"His expertise in major global markets and track record in international sales and leadership will help us build our position as Asia's premier global asset manager," said Hideo Abe, director and executive vice chairman for Nikko Asset Management.
The appointment comes after Nikko announced it will distribute bond funds managed by UK-based Legal and General Investment Management to Japanese insurance companies and banks as part of a new partnership.
As part of the deal, Legal and General Investment Management will also distribute some Nikko funds in the UK and elsewhere.
