BNY Mellon has appointed Fangfang Chen as its Asia Pacific chair and Asia Pacific head of asset servicing and digital.
Prior to her new appointment, Chen previously served as State Street’s chief operating officer in Asia Pacific.
Once she takes up the role in January, Chen will be responsible for overseeing the bank’s growth strategy in the region, including its digital business.
Chen spent 12 years at State Street working in a number of senior roles in the US, China and Hong Kong and she also brings experience from the fintech world. Her last role was as chief operating officer and founder of Algorand Foundation, a blockchain-based startup, where she was responsible for strategy, business incubation and ecosystem partnerships.
Based in Hong Kong, she will report to Hani Kablawi, chairman of international at BNY Mellon and James Slater, head of asset servicing client coverage and front office solutions.
Chen succeeds the retiring David Cruikshank as Apac chair while the former Apac head of asset servicing, Rohan Singh, has been appointed to the global role of head of asset owners.
