C8 Technologies launches Chinese futures index

Indices boardUK-based fintech platform and C8 Technologies has launched an index designed to offer institutional investors access to China’s futures market. The China Futures Access vehicle has been available to C8’s Chinese onshore clients since 2018 and will now be offered to offshore investors via 50 commodity contracts. The move has been inspired by the growing development of China’s futures market including the launch of the Guangzhou Futures Exchange in April 2021 which is focused on environmentally themed products such as carbon futures. And in May, China published a draft Futures Law to provide a regulatory framework for the market in mainland China. The futures market has also benefitted from China’s efforts to encourage more overseas investors, typified by the extension of the QFII programme to include futures. “Professional investors have long faced barriers to entry but, as the many signals of market development indicate, this is changing,” said Mattias Eriksson, co-founder and CEO of C8 Technologies. © 2021 funds global asia
