US-based asset manager Barings is set to acquire Australia-based Gryphon Capital Investments (GCI) in a move that will grow its presence in the Asia Pacific market.
Barings has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase 100% of Gryphon Capital Partners, the parent company of GCI, which in turn serves as investment manager of Gryphon Capital Income Trust.
The deal will enable Gryphon to scale its operations thanks to Barings’ global operating platform.
In return, Barings will be able to expand its structured finance offering in Asia-Pacific and also accelerate its entry into the Australian market following the 2022 acquisition of Australia-based real estate firm Altis Property Partners.
Regarding personnel changes, the Gryphon team will join Barings’ global structured finance team while Gryphon co-founders Steven Fleming and Ashley Burtenshaw will continue as portfolio managers for CGI.
