The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has appointed Darryl Chan Wai-man as deputy chief executive.
He takes over from Edmond Lau Ying-pan, who announced his retirement in August.
Chan will have responsibility for the external, money management and research departments within the financial watchdog.
He has worked at the regulator for nine years and was most recently an executive director responsible for promoting Hong Kong as an international financial centre.
Prior to joining the HKMA, Chan was a government administrative officer in Hong Kong.
