The digital assets unit of Japanese financial services firm Nomura has expanded its global presence with the opening of a new office in Japan.
Laser Digital has appointed Hideaki Kudi as a representative director and the head of its new Tokyo office.
He will be responsible for the firm’s digital assets strategy, developing security tokens and launching the first real estate security token offering in Japan.
The office opening comes a year after the Switzerland-based Laser Digital was launched by two Nomura employees – former wholesale division head Steven Ashley and former chief digital officer Jez Mohideen.
“To optimise support of our trading business, we wanted to have 24/7 operational management, so for coverage in the Far East, Japan was obviously our top choice,” said Ashley.
