UK fund manager Somerset Capital Management has recruited the former head of China at hedge fund RWC Partners as it expands its China team.
Min Chen joins from Dymon Asia where he was the portfolio manager of the Prospect View China fund. Prior to that he was head of China at RWC as well as managing director at Everest Partners.
Chen will be joined by Lilian Tai, a Singapore-based analyst who worked alongside him at Dymon Asia and has an ESG focus. Both will be based in Somerset’s Singapore office.
The new recruit will also bring the Prospect fund with him and he will be assisted by Somerset Capital senior China analyst David Heng who will take on the role of assistant portfolio manager of the fund.
The two hirings double the number of China specialists within Somerset Capital and also raise the prospect of more China-focused funds and its first China office in the future.
“The Prospect View China fund is an important step in the expansion of our Asia business with more China-focused funds expected to be launched in the years ahead,” said Timothy Hay, chief executive of Asia at Somerset Capital.
